Fifths Birthday

Your little girl's or little boy's fifth birthday party should be a special one that is not gender specific. A great idea would be a field day birthday party. Have invitations that say something like 'do you want to come outside and play' or something catchy like that and have a lot of different outdoor toys on it, like a ball and bat, sneakers, a soccer ball; pretty much you can put whatever you plan on playing that day on the invitation. Ask that the kids wear comfortable clothes and sneakers.

Have your backyard set up for all the different games that you use to play at school on field day: sack race, the balance the egg on the spoon game, the baseball bat spinning game. Set up the wiffle ball set and have a game of wiffle ball; have a water balloon war and be sure to fill the balloons with things other than just water, shaving cream for instance. For those girls that do not want to play ball, they can have a cheerleading competition that will be judged at the end of the games. The sky is the limit for this birthday party. Don't forget to have an awards ceremony after all the games have been completed.

The decorations can be as simple as a red-and-white gingham table cloth with a few different sized glass vases filled with yellow Gerber daises. Have galvanized buckets with lots of drinks, water, and push up popsicles so they can serve themselves. You can also have an ice cream bar to cool things off. You really only chocolate and vanilla ice cream and lots of toppings like sprinkles, crushed cookies, candies, and whipped topping. For the food, have the No. 1 choice for all 5-year-olds: pizza! Your cake should also go along with the field day theme, so be sure to have baseball bat, sneakers, some awards medals...you get the idea
